Endodontics ( also known as root canal therapy) is a procedure designed to eliminate the bacteria from the infected internal portion of a tooth. You may be a candidate for a root canal if you have any of the following symptoms

  • A chipped or cracked tooth

  • Sensitivity to hot or cold

  • Swollen or tender gums

  • Deep decay

  • A pimple on the gums next to tooth

The Root Canal Procedure

The root canal procedure can often be accomplished in one visit.

  • The tooth is numbed with a local anesthetic

  • The nerve and connective tissue is located

  • The nerve and connective tissue are removed

  • The canal is completely disinfected

  • A thermoplastic filling material is placed

  • The tooth can then be prepared for a crown
